Family Scientific Name: Scrophulariaceae
Family Common Name: figwort
Scientific Name: Pedicularis groenlandica
Common Synonym: Elephantella groenlandica
Common Name: Elephant head lousewort
Species Code: PEGR2
Ecotype: High elevation ecotype at Lassen National Park, Ca
General Distribution: This plant prefers to grow in moist areas or meadow regions in the western US and most of North America through the Canada-America border and northward.
Propagation Goal: plants
Propagation Method: seed
ProductType: Container (plug)
Stock Type: stubby containers
Time To Grow: Weeks
Target Specifications: Well-developed crowns, roots and rhizomes filling soil profile of container.
Pre-Planting Treatments: In our tests this plant did not germinate in either our warm(75F days and 50F nights) or cool(38F) treatments. However, after three months in the warm treatments were placed in the cool for three months and then returned to the warm and there a germination rate of 54% was seen. This seems to suggest that in order to properly germinate Pedicularis groenlandica seeds need a warm-cool-warm treatment.
