Family Scientific Name: Poaceae
Family Common Name: grass
Scientific Name: Calamagrostis canadensis
Common Synonym: Calamagrostis nubila
Common Name: bluejoint
Species Code: CACA4
Ecotype: High elevation ecotype at Lassen National Park, Ca
General Distribution: This plant prefers moist environments and is found to grow in most of the United states (excluding some of the southernmost states) and northers countries around the world.
Propagation Goal: plants
Propagation Method: seed
ProductType: Container (plug)
Stock Type: stubby containers
Time To Grow: Weeks
Target Specifications: Well-developed crowns, roots and rhizomes fill soil profile in container.
Pre-Planting Treatments: Calamagrostis canadensis seeds do not appear to be dormant and in our tests germinated readily in both warm (70F days and 50F nights) and cool (38F) environments. In our tests there was a germination rate of 48% when placed straight into the warm growth chamber and only 35% when placed in the cooler for 45 days of cold-moist stratification. Low germination was due to unfilled seed not removed during the cleaning process.
