Propagule Collection: | Panicles are ready for seed collection when they are a golden-brown color and seeds come readily off the panicle. Collecting the entire inflorescences by snipping them off with garden clippers or by hand is the best way to obtain large amounts of seed from deergrass plants. | ||
Propagule Processing: |
Panicles can be cleaned individually by running the seed head through the fingers and breaking off the florets with fingernails. Another recommended method to remove the seed from the seed head is to bundle the panicles and beat them on a tarp or in a bucket (Anderson n.d.). At this time, the MAPP seed facility does not have equipment to fully clean grass seed material down to the grain. Orthodox storage is assumed. |
