Forest Genetics Progresses in Quebec

After relating the late interest in forest genetics in Québec to the abundance of the forest resource, serious natural regeneration problems after exploitation are exposed. Mainly initiated at the end of the sixties, forest genetics research and improvement progress are presented on a species basis. Tree improvement is seen not only as a tool to obtain superior returns from artificial regeneration but as a means to secure seed and seedling supplies. Finally important research and development areas where efforts must be emphasized are pointed out.
