07. Seedling Growth and Development
Development and growth of seedlings begins with germination and continues until the seedlings are lifted. Among the multitude of factors or conditinos affecting development and growth are: the size and viability of the seed, time and depth of sowing, stratification of the seed, the genetic endowment of the seed, condition of the seed beds, charecteristics of the mulch, moisture and temperature conditions during germination, soil chemicals, soil pests, seedbed densities, soil texture and structure, availibility of nutrients, soil moisture during the growing season, competition from weeds, soil and atmospheric temperatures during the growing season, and cultural treatments.
