Effects of Nursery Nutritional Schedules on Development of Western Hemlock Seedlings in the Field

Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla [Raf.] Sarg.) seedlings were cultured with five different nutritional schedules used in the Pacific Northwest. Seedling shoot and root development were compared after the nursery culture period and after the first year in the field. Differences in shoot development were increased whereas differences in root development were decreased during the first year after out-planting.
