Abstract

Information on nursery site selection, establishment, and operation is presented for both bare root and containerized nurseries. Topsoil texture, acidity, drainage and topography are of primary consideration in bare root nursery site selection whereas drainage and topography are most important in containerized nurseries. All nurseries require adequate irrigation water of good quality. Criteria for both water quality and quantity are presented. Optimum seedling density in both types of nurseries is 150 seedlings per square meter of bed space. The optimum container size is 8.0 cm diameter by 15 cm deep.
