Death of a Chestnut: The Host Pathogen Interaction
Endothia parasitica advances within the inner bark of its host through enzymatic maceration of sound tissues. Oxalic acid appears to play a role by acting synergistically with polygalacturonase and displaying a toxicity toward protoplasts.
