Target Specifications: Spring plant out.
Propagule Collection: Hand collected seed pods. Cleaned seed stored dry for 3 weeks then at 2-4 C in seed bank until use (3 months).
Pre-Planting Treatments: Seeds were tested for germination with and without scarification and 4 weeks Cold stratification at 2-4 C. Treatment A-With scarification, B-without scarification, C-with scarification and 4 weeks cold strat, D-Without scarification and with 4 weeks cold strat.
After two weeks Treatment A had 95% germ, Treatment B had 0%, treatment C had 100%, treatment D had 5%.
Results: Scarification was neccesary whether or not cold strat was used.
Growing Area Preparation/
Annual Practices for Perennial Crops:
Seeds were moved to 20D/10N following pretreatment. Seeds were held with 12 hrs light durring all stages of germ trial.
Establishment Phase: Germlings were moved to Rootrainers containing soilless medium following germination.
Length of Establishment Phase: 3 months
Other Comments: Scarification was achieved by knicking the the seed coat with a razorblade on the side opposite the embryo.
Plants failed to thrive in the greenhouse.
