Pre-Planting Treatments: Seeds were sown into cone-tainers filled with Sunshine #1 (a soil-less peat-based media) amended with micro-nutrients (Micromax) and a slow-release fertilizer (Osmocote 14-14-14). The flats of cone-tainers were covered with poly-ethylene bags and placed in a walk-in cooler (35-40 degrees) for 6 weeks.
Growing Area Preparation/
Annual Practices for Perennial Crops:		 Flats were removed from the cooler after 6 weeks and placed in greenhouse set at moderate temperatures (70 degree days/ 50 degree nights).
Establishment Phase: Seeds germinated within one to two weeks. 90% germination occured.
Length of Establishment Phase: 1 month
Active Growth Phase: Plants seemed slow to establish. They were watered daily and fertilized once mid-season with Peters 20-20-20 and placed in a shadehouse 1 month after coming out of the cooler.
Length of Active Growth Phase: 5 months
Other Comments: One flat of cone-tainers sown with seeds ("control flat") was placed in the greenhouse without any cold-moist stratification. No seeds germinated. After 8 weeks, the control flat was placed in the cooler for 6 weeks. Once removed, the flat exhibited 90% germination.
