Quickly Detachable Rubber-Tired Wheels on Cultivator Saves Much Time in Hauling to Planting Site

A simple method of attaching and detaching rubbermounted wheels on the Rapp cultivator has been found to save considerable worktime and prevent serious damage to roads and trails when the cultivator is being hauled to and from a planting site or fireline. The accompanying sketches show how the wheels are attached to the rear of the cultivator frame with piping, just behind the scalper wheels. Two bolts and two pins complete the simple connection. While under tow, the scalpers ride well above the surface of the ground. The cultivator can then be towed behind a truck over surfaced highways, and then attached to a tractor for the final leg of the journey over a firebreak or logging trail. This method saves the time of loading the cultivator unit on a tractor-trailer for the highway trip, unloading it at the trail, and hitching it to a tractor to drag it over the trail to the planting site or fireline. It also saves the damage to the trail caused by the cultivator's scalping wheels. This tearing up of the trail makes it difficult for trucks to bring in planting or fire crews and equipment.
