12. Nutrients and Ferilization

A nursery soil is a highly artificial medium in which the soil reaction, exchange capacity and the content of nutrients are adjusted to meet the requirements of the species to be produced. All of the essential elements used by seedlings must be either derived from the mineral and organic fractions of the soil or provided in the form of inorganic ferilizers. Exceptions are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and sometimes nitrogen, sulfur, and chlorine.
