Summary

The New Mexico Reforestation Center (NMRC) is a formal partnership between New Mexico State University, New Mexico Highlands University, University of New Mexico, and the Forestry Division of New Mexico's Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resource Department. The NMRC mission is to meet current and future reforestation needs in the southwestern region through its comprehensive seed bank, nursery, and planting operations combined with research, education, and outreach activities.

Job Description

This position will be responsible for directing the operational, financial, regulatory, human resource, and business activities of the New Mexico Reforestation Center. Oversees all activities within the NMRC program that includes seed collection/banking, nursery production, planting operations, and all other associated activities. The Director will: 1) analyze, modify, and develop improved structure as needed to the NMRC; 2) provide oversight direction and leadership for contract maintenance, renewal, and new contract acquisition successes; 3) ensure adherence to and compliance with applicable state, Federal and other sources; 4) oversee the regulations, development, and expectations of other regulatory agencies, inter-institutional/governmental bodies, and funding sources; 5) be accountable for monitoring NMRC budget; 6) be responsible for the hiring, supervision, and management of multiple levels of NMRC staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Eight (8) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years' experience as a proven leader in the conservation arena, non-profit sector, advocacy, or related for-profit area, including demonstrated experience producing results and meeting program/department goals.
  • Proven technical skills, analytical ability, good judgement, and strong operational focus.
  • Proven managerial talent in budgeting.
  • Outstanding leadership and visionary qualities and able to work effectively with and through others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization.
  • Operational and/or leadership experience associated with tree seed collection, processing, and handling, reforestation nursery infrastructure, management and seedling production.

Location

The duty station will be based at the JTH Forestry Research Center located in Mora, NM.

Salary

Commensurate with education and experience.

Appointment

One year appointment; Contingent upon funding.
